We studied tapestry designs from around the world before the students started their own symmetrical sketch. I had them trace the sketch onto burlap with a marker first so we could see their plan. Next, all colors were open to them as long as they kept their overall design symmetrical. They are loving this project. I even heard a boy say, in response to my reminding him of our lesson for the day, "Yes...I just LOVE stitching," which totally made my day!
