Gesturing in Fourth Grade

The fourth graders are learning about gesturing drawing and looking to Keith Haring for inspiration for our art project. This is a cool site for kids about Keith Haring: http://www.haringkids.com/. We discussed how he is a contemporary artist and how his artwork is very different from that of which we are used to viewing. The students did an amazing job modeling for each other and capturing the gesture of each drawing. We learned how it is not important if your drawing includes eye glasses, headbands or shoes. What is important in a gesture drawing is the movement of the person, the weight of their body, and the essence of their expression through their motion. As you can tell, I think these fourth grades got it pretty well. I can't wait to see their final work!
