5th grade op art contour shoes
After a lot of diligence, the master fifth graders have completed their first project. They learned about contour drawing by drawing all the important parts of their shoe. Next, we learned about the art movement, Op Art. We looked at a lot of Op Art, but they were transfixed by all of the work created by Bridget Riley. I quickly showed them about 5 ways to create an op art effect but I also encouraged the students to try and create their own. We learned how analogous colors create unity and this would be a nice calm background against the starkness of the white shoe. The stipulation for the Op Art design was that it had to be colored in analogous colors. Look at these trippy concoctions!
