1st grade printing

The first graders read Anansi the Spider and talked about the importance of mythology.  Anansi the Spider is a myth from Ghana, a small country in Africa.  Looking at the pages, we were inspired to create patterned paper.  The first graders made a printing plate using just one geometric shape.  They cut the shape out of boxes and glued it to a paper.  This was their printing plate.  This week, we printed their plate four times!  We talked about colors that pop, colors that are across from each other on the color wheel.  These are called complementary colors.  The students printed their printing plated using complementary colors.  It was a super fun day!  Stay tuned to see how we finish up this lesson!
