K Paper Quilts

The Kindergarteners learned about the history of quilts for this lesson on symmetry and shapes.  We discussed how a quilt can be hung up and used as a work of art or it can be a blanket and used for warmth.  A quilt usually has more than one layer (usually three) and we compared it to a hamburger!  The top layer is what is decorated.  The Kindergarteners did a great job placing a shape, letter or line in the same space in each quilt square.  We discussed symmetry and their world was opened to new symmetrical things!  Check out these amazing paper quilts!
