Kindergarten Cave Art

I love to get the Kindergarteners thinking about who the first artists were.  Grandma?  A famous person you see in an art book?  No!  The very first artists were the cave artists.  They created art on walls of caves using material they had (berries, clay, twigs, rocks).  They subject matter was usually the animals they were hunting.  There is also evidence of human hand prints.
We had a lot of fun viewing the interactive site of the Lascaux cave in France (you can see it here).  Next, we used neutral colors to create symbols and other images that the students would like to create on their own caves.  We crumpled their cave walls to add real texture and they "signed" their names using their hand print.
Super great job!
