5th grade Keith Haring

Keith Haring is so fun to teach.  I love the movement, joy, acceptance and love seen in his work.  The fifth graders created a relief sculpture by making their own "Haring-esq" figure, cutting it out of tag board and then gluing it to mat board.  They had to keep in mind the relief aspect and most of them needed to add more tag board to their original figure to be able to see all of the details in the final product.  Next, they covered it with tin foil, rubbed to release the image and then added a background and lines that showed movement with Sharpies.  Finally, they got to choose how dark or light they wanted their image by their own personal style of application and wiping off of the India ink.  I love how these turned out!  Great work!
