Desert Landscapes

For our landscape lesson this year in third grade, I wanted to do a desert similar to one I had done many moons ago.  However, I couldn't find my sample so I looked online and was blown away by the very cool way to use chalk pastel seen here in a blog post by Cassie Stephens.  I also loved learning about a new (to me) artist, Sushe Felix (for more information, click here).  As a class, we compared her work to the Georgia artist Marsha Hamby Savage.  They both create wonderful desert landscapes but in different styles.
The students and and I had a fun time using the new stencil-method.  Here are their great works:

SBCE teacher painting classes

Part of the workday on Thursday was EXTRA fun!  Around 60 teachers (divided into two groups) started the day off relaxing, enjoying each other and having fun while creating gorgeous paintings. I had so much fun seeing the creative side of ALL of our teachers!  Huge shout out of "THANKS" to our principal who had the idea and supplied the funds for the materials.  Here's a look into this special time:
