Kindergarten Matisse Goldfish

The Kindergarteners loved learning about the French artist, Henri Matisse.  Did you know he was studying to become a lawyer, but fell in love with art instead (too bad he was in the hospital when he made this revelation).
We focused our time and attention on his famous painting, not too uniquely-named "Goldfish".  In our artwork, we started by doing a watercolor resist over patterns made with oil pastels.  Then we made our fishbowl (based on either a sphere form or a cylinder form) and used the trick of watercolor resist to add bubbles too!  Next, we made organic shaped leaves.  Finally, we added a table and created our beautiful collage.
What do you think?  I think Matisse would be very proud of these smart and creative artists!
